Nurses make the initial visit to patient's homes

Nursing

Nurses evaluate our patients to assure that they are responding well to the medications and treatments prescribed by their physicians. We want to prevent complications, when possible, and catch those that do occur as early as possible, to prevent further hospitalizations.
 

Our Nurses teach patients and their families about the disease processes involved, medications, treatments and symptoms to report. There is a Nurse available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, including weekends and holidays. We will provide assistance needed over the telephone, and make visits to established patients when needed.

 

One of many things Nurses can help with is treatments ordered by Physicians.Nurses provide treatments ordered by physicians to our patients. These include, but are not limited to wound care, bandage changes, intravenous (IV) therapy, urinary catheter changes, tube feedings, and tracheostomy care. When appropriate, we teach family members portions or all of the care needed by the Patient. Of course, they supervise the care then provided by the family members until absolutely sure that it is being provided well, and all questions and concerns have been answered!

Therapy

Therapists help with strength, balance and coordination.Physical and Occupational Therapy can be provided in the home to help the Patient to function better and with less pain. In general, Physical Therapy is provided to the lower extremities, and Occupational Therapy is provided to the upper extremities, but there are many exceptions to those generalities!

 

Physical Therapy can help with strengthening after a surgery, a fracture or injury. When an existing diagnosis, such as Arthritis, gets worse, Physical Therapy can often help make it better again. They can also help with balance for those who have been falling often. They usually achieve these goals through progressive exercises, and sometimes through treatments such as ultrasound, massage or electrical stimulation.

 

Occupational Therapy usually works with the hands, arms and shoulders. They alsoIf you have been falling too often, call us, therapy can help! work to adapt activities that have become difficult due to a disability. For example, when a person can’t use one of their arms, it gets quite difficult to tie their shoes. The Occupational Therapist would teach the Patient different ways to make that task easier.

 

Most insurance companies cover therapy when the Patient meets the insurance’s rules (please see our Frequently Asked Questions page for information on qualifications).

Social Workers

Social Workers link Patients to community resources.Social Workers help link patients to community resources and occasionally provide brief counseling to patients. Often, Patients need assistance meeting needs brought up by their illness – paying for medications, deciding on long-term plans, etc. The Social Worker will help the Patient find the options available to them, then decide amongst those options.

Home Health Aides

Home Health Aides help with bathing & other personal care.A Home Health Aide provides bathing and other personal care needed by patients. They may also do simple medical treatments such as changing simple bandages, or putting ointment on a wound. If needed, they may provide light housekeeping, prepare meals or assist with other homemaking type tasks.

Insurance will only pay for a Home Health Aide if the Patient meets the other qualifications (please see our Frequently Asked Questions page for information on qualifications). That is, a Patient must need the services of a Nurse or Therapist, only then will the insurance pay for the personal care provided by a Home Health Aide.

Private Duty / Personal Care Aides

In addition to our full-line of skilled home health services, we now provide Private Duty Nurse Aide Services!Patients can trust and depend on their Alpha Omega aide.
We can provide as little as a “bath visit” with no minimum length of visit, all the way up to 24 hour services. Many families struggle, knowing their Mom or Dad need more help, yet being responsible for their jobs, raising their children, and often living at a distance from their parents. Private duty home health is a great solution - as often as you need it each week, and the visit length and duties are at your discretion!

These aides make home visits at the request of patients and families. They perform the tasks requested by the patient - assistance with bathing, dressing, toileting, transfers, walking, exercises. The visits have no minimum length, the briefest visits are usually for the purposes of bathing and morning care. Or, the visits can last up to 24 hours/day.

No physician orders are needed unless the Patient has a private insurance policy, and the insurance company requires it. Such policies are generally specific to "Nursing Home Care" or "Home Health Care". Unfortunately, Medicare, Medicaid,  and other insurances do not cover this type of care.
